The brain is a complex central processing center. There are layers upon layers of information on the superhighway within. Meditation helps you to set your internal GPS to a highway that runs more smoothly and efficiently on a daily basis. It doesn't mean that you never run into difficulties but it does mean that you have a way of tapping into your internal GPS to recalculate how you respond to the difficulties.
Did you know that just 5 minutes of meditation can have an impact on brain functioning?
It's true. Just 5 minutes can help to trigger the parts of the brain that help to calm you and ease the impact of stress. Try it. See how you feel. Sit quietly for a few moments before you leave your house in the morning. Notice if you get into your car feeling a bit calmer and possibly a bit more aware.
A word of caution......
Now, 5 minutes doesn't act like an insurance policy. You aren't covered for the term after 5 minutes of meditation, but it is a start and it will help the brain to recognize that it's time to re-evaluate. It gives the anterior cingulate a brief time to activate some neurons to let both the limbic system and the frontal lobe know they need to be in balance. If there isn't an awareness of needing balance, the limbic system will continue to attract more stress and more intense emotional responses.
Like thoughts attract more like thoughts.
Meditation can help you to re-set that by giving you a focus instead of more intense thoughts that send your stress levels over the top.
