PTSD and Depression: Are they the same thing?
PTSD and Depression are not the same thing. There are, however, many people who experience and receive a diagnosis of depression and a diagnosis of PTSD.
Post-traumatic stress is characterized by the "re-experiencing phenomenon".
The re-experiencing of a traumatic event, which can include flashbacks, does not always include flashbacks for all people with PTSD.
Actually, many people have re-experiencing episodes that do not include visual flashbacks. There are other ways in which a person can "re-experience" a traumatic event, which I have talked about in previous postings.
Post-traumatic stress can exist without Depression, just like Depression can exist without post-traumatic stress.
