Book Expo America took place this week at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan. During my time there I had the opportunity to meet with folks from the book publishing, producing, and distributing industries, as well as, representatives from a number of publications.
Each person who picked up the book was interested in its' content and all looked at me and said, " Wow", when I told them it was my story; That response was almost always followed by....."I have a family member who had a head trauma" "I have a service member in my family who has struggled with PTSD." "I have a wife or a child living with a brain tumor who struggles with looking normal, but has deficiencies that make it hard to feel normal with other people."
Each person seem to be connected to someone who has suffered from an invisible wound.
The message of the book was heard loud and clear. I thank the veterans who I had the pleasure to meet and I appreciate the open, receptive energy of each person who stopped to talk with me and have their book signed. Please continue to share it with others, as the main goal of the book is to help others understand that although they often suffer in silence, they are not suffering alone.
