Just for today I will not suffer. Imagine for a moment what one day without suffering would feel like. Close your eyes for a moment and visualize what you would look like and feel like if you weren't suffering. What would it be like to be content with yourself where you are, as you are, free from suffering?
It's a tall order for those who have experienced trauma. We often only know suffering. It's usually the only thing we can see in the present, the past, and the future for ourselves. It colors everything we are, every place we've been, and every person around us. Trauma becomes us and with that is the embedded suffering that never seems to go away.
Pain may be what was given to us, but suffering is our choice in how to handle that pain. If we only believe in suffering, then suffering is what we continue to manifest. Just like I teach when it comes to stress, we have trained our neural pathways well. We know how to create our own suffering and we are really good at it. We know how to create and sustain stress, but what about healing and being free from suffering? Why is that so challenging to believe in and to achieve? Well, because we haven't paved the pathway for it. As you begin to recognize that you have choices, you will begin to seek new ideas, as you seek new ideas new perspectives arise, as new perspectives arise, new tools appear and as new tools appear, change begins to take place and as change begins to take place a new pathway begins to be paved.
I have seen the evolution of these elusive pathways of healing in so many and I have experienced them within myself. At some point, I stopped believing that I was meant to suffer and began to believe that healing was possible. Shifting this belief system inside of myself took time, but it has proven itself effective, valuable, and possible.
Just for today.....allow yourself permission to be from suffering.
