By the blinking of eyelids, how many of you sleep with multiple blankets on you at night for the weight? I have been like that for a very long time. It is high anxiety all night if I try to sleep with only a sheet or a lightweight fleece blanket. It is not unusual to find me piled up with four, five, sometimes six heavy blankets simply to feel safe enough to sleep at night. When you suffer from any level of anxiety, environment means a lot and feeling safe enough to go to sleep means even more.
I want to share with you a discovery I made last year.......weighted blankets! If you have never seen them or read about them, you should definitely look them up. I had contemplated the idea of them for a while, but never took the step to get one as they are an investment, but in the Spring of this year I did a book talk for a group of mothers of special needs children and similar weighted blankets came up in conversation. One of the mothers of a child with Autism said that she loves the blanket because it makes bedtime a lot easier for her daughter. It helps settle the nervous system down and helps to calm overstimulation. After doing some research I found SensaCalm and knew that I wanted to include these for my meditation and energy work clients who suffer from anxiety to help with a sense a safety when closing their eyes during our sessions together.
With the help and support of a scholarship from the Business and Professional Women of Southern Ocean County (BPWSOC), of which I am a member, I was able to purchase two of these SensaCalm weighted blankets for Peaceful Warriors. You can see the blankets in the photos, but the photos hardly do them justice; Not only are the blankets beautifully crafted, but they are different weights. The golden blanket is 15lbs and the green blanket is 20lbs. They are heavy! But as one client told me, the golden blanket felt like a tight hug that helped her feel calm and safe during her meditation, which she said helped with her anxiety.
A thank you to the BPWSOC scholarship committee, officers, and membership for their financial support and generosity! These blankets are going to be a great support to my clients and my work. Thank you also to Elaine Essary of SensaCalm for the positive communication, support, and craftsmanship of the company.
I am not someone endorsed or paid to share this information. I sought these blankets out and have had my own genuinely positive response using them in meditation and I am very happy to see my clients having positive experiences with them as well. As with everything I do, each person's path and needs are personal. What works for one person may not be the answer for the next, so always do your homework and learn what works best for you.
